Movie Review: Step Up 2 The Streets
In this follow-up to the 2006 "Step Up", Andie is a newcomer at the Maryland School of the Arts (Step Up 1) She is kicked out from the notorious dance crew 410 due to her new commitments. Together with Chase, they both formed a team with cast-offs and misfits from the school, to take part in an underground street-style dance competition. Watch as they battle out at the Streets to take on her previous crew. Not forgetting, the side romance that eventually sparkles between the two.
If you have no idea what street style dancing is about, this is the movie to catch. It will definitely be entertaining for dancers and inspiring for those new to dancing.
The male lead from Step Up 1 appeared briefly and you will also notice the very popular America’s Best Dance Crew contestant “Jabba Wockies” in the film as well. Look out for the group with the white masks! Even though they barely appeared for a minute, you can probably tell that they are the best street-style dancers in the movie.
Naturally there will be romance but just a little this time. (It doesn't go deeper than the attaction phase) The main focus of this movie is to create awareness that there are talents all around and everyone should be given opportunities to prove themselves. You might also notice the absence of fancy dress up. This is why they call it the streets and not the mall.
Everyone is encouraged to catch this film as it brings awareness to dancing through the passion of the dancers and those involved in the movie. Give the movie a chance, help spread the passion. You might just be suprised.
In conclusion, just catch the movie.
